SOLAR ECLIPSE 2024

A once-in-a-lifetime event is coming to our skies, the afternoon of Monday, April 8, 2024 — and Wolfe Island is one of the best places in Eastern Ontario to see it.

The last total solar eclipse was seen in this region in the year 1349, and the next one won’t be until 2399!

ENTERTAINMENT

4:30 – 6:30pm: Jason Mercer and Teilhard Frost will perform a little post-eclipse music at the hotel. They might even play Total Eclipse of the Heart (but no promises!) Teilhard and Jason have been making music together from the moment they met and delight in each other’s musical company. Playing a combination of banjos, fiddle and viola, they play dance tunes from the Appalachians to Scandinavian Waltzes and Belgian Mazurkas. As multi-instrumentalists, they have collaborated to create award winning soundtracks for film and live performance, as well as The Os Project to highlight the banjo and its African relatives.

ABOUT THE ECLIPSE

“A total solar eclipse happens when the Moon aligns precisely between the Sun and Earth, completely covering the face of the Sun and casting its shadow upon our planet,” explains Dr. Robert Knobel, Head of the Department of Physics, Engineering Physics, and Astronomy at Queen’s University. “To see it, you have to be somewhere within a narrow path of totality, which Kingston happens to be on for the one occurring in April.”

When this happens, the sky will become as dark as night for three minutes. The eclipse will begin around 2:09 PM with the moon “taking a bite out of the sun”, and culminating with it completely covering the sun around 3:22 PM, and ending around 4:34 PM.
