Open Mic Night with the Bowers Brothers

Tonight Kevin Bowers (Holy Wow, China Cat Riders, etc.) is a special guest host of the Wednesday Open Mic on the Hotel Wolfe Island patio. Tonight will include the first ever performance of all three Bowers Brothers (Pete Bowers and Jeff Bowers) playing some tunes together. Other locals coming up to add. Kevin’s music is a mixture of mood, melody, poetry, stories and humour. Sometimes simple and sometimes challenging, he sings about topics as diverse as the Flying Monkeys in The Wizard of OZ, stealing tomatoes from the neighbour’s garden, the American invasion of Panama, or a hurtin’ tunes about girls leavin’ town. The tunes are rough and honest; they are sometimes pretty and other times raw. You can hear a wide range of influences in Kevin’s work, from Leonard Cohen, to Neil Young, to Woody Guthrie, to Mississippi John Hurt, and back around to Dylan. He covers several traditional tunes, and he spices his set with plenty of contemporary songs.
