Scott Hardware / Heaven For Real / L.A. Foster

Scott Hardware / Heaven For Real / L.A. Foster – all together in one night for the triple bill of your dreams! $15 at the door. 8pm show.

On Ballad of a Tryhard, the third album by Scott Hardware, the moniker of Toronto-based musician and composer Scott Harwood, he attempts a response by honouring the splendor of “living between emotions.” It’s an album where a rich inner monologue, and the undefined space between reflection and realization can offer an invaluable reprieve.

Over luminous keys and sky-sweeping melodies, Harwood reverse engineers his capabilities as a composer skilled in the art of complexity to deliver his boldest album to date — unselfconsciously ambitious Y2K rock; a reimagination of experimental adult contemporary that tweaks the limits of soft rock with curiosity and appreciation.

Heaven The Toronto by way of Halifax, Nova Scotia project is formed around the nucleus of twins Mark and J. Scott Grundy (also of Quaker Parents). Since 2012, the back-and-forth between Mark’s evocative lyric-driven songwriting and Scott’s musically expressive instincts has breathed a precious life into Heaven For Real. Rounding out the live line up with talented friends and collaborators Laura Jeffery (Fountain) and Cher Hann, H4R’s sound is most simply described as art rock, but more accurately described as post-punk unravelled with one tug of a thread to reveal an internal pool of psych, jazz, ambient, electronica and Britpop.

L.A. Foster has been taking cues from the Montreal scene and her time living in Buenos Aires. Her “sad dance music” is percussively influenced by the South with the attitude of the Montreal nightlife. Currently based in Kingston.
