When it comes to reggae in Canada, few bands do it better—while remaining true to its founding principles—than Toronto’s The Human Rights. Since forming in 2007 around one of the scene’s true lions, Friendlyness (previously of Culture Shock, Truth And Rights and Big Sugar), The Human Rights have developed a modern, high energy sound that blends Roots Reggae with jazz, funk and R&B influences, courtesy of a blazing three-piece horn section and the soulful lead vocals of JUNO nominee Tréson.

Presented in collaboration with Collective Concerts and The Beat Network.

Make a day of it

What better way to celebrate Canada Day than with The Human Rights live! Even better — make it a day on the Island, with a trip to the beach at Big Sandy Bay, a bike ride, and lunch or dinner at the Hotel.

GETTING HERE: Ferry, shuttle, bike, and parking information

  • If coming from off-island, we strongly suggest walking on to the ferry and taking the shuttle bus into the village, or biking, as this weekend may be very busy on the ferry and cars may have to wait an hour or more. Consider parking your car in downtown Kingston. There is a large lot in front of the Leon’s Centre which may be available.
  • You should be on the 4pm ferry from Kingston (at the latest) to be in time for the start of show.
  • Consider coming early and make a day of it on the Island, with a trip to the beach at Big Sandy Bay, a bike ride, and lunch or dinner at the Hotel.
  • The free shuttle bus from the Wolfe Island ferry dock is a large yellow school bus. The shuttle bus’ last return from the village to the ferry dock will be at 7:10pm, but we will make sure to coordinate rides back to the ferry for all our guests. If you’re not sure what’s happening, please ask one of our staff members.
  • If you do drive, some parking is available behind the Hotel, and throughout the village.
  • BICYCLING: The Hotel is 4.5km from the ferry dock, about 12 minutes’ ride by bicycle. Please make sure to use lights and reflectors so that you are visible in the dark.
