Batimento duo
Batimento duo, is an instrumental ensemble formed by Ignacio Correa and Andrés Rey, which explores the sound and expressive possibilities of the guitar. Taking regional music as a starting point, they approach musical practice from different points of view and focus on the Río de la Plata genres of tango, waltz, and milonga. For this proposal, original arrangements are created and interpreted with a personal look at the genres. The selection of the repertoire is mainly due to the link that the works have with Uruguay, whether by composers, lyricists or that their creation or theme is closely linked to Uruguayan territory, claiming the importance of the country within tango, and the role of music as a factor of cultural integration of the region.
They have performed both in traditional milongas and in the main theaters and venues in Uruguay: Teatro Solís, Sala Zitarrosa, Sala Hugo Balzo – SODRE, among others. They have been invited to open the Yamandú Costa show at the Montevideo International Guitar Festival, they participated in the XVII International Tango Festival of Medellín Colombia, sharing the closing ceremony with the Sexteto Mayor, they presented on the XVII World of the Guitar Festival in Kaluga, Russia, to a full room, and they went on a tour to present their book and album in Japan. They have also performed at different instances of festivals, courses and concerts in Portugal, Spain, England, Finland, México, Bolivia, Argentina, Costa Rica, and Ecuador. As part of the project, the members of the duo have published a book with the scores of their arrangements and the history of tango in Uruguay, which has the support and financing of the CIATyC (Interministerial Commission to Support Tango and Candombe) In 2023 This book was translated and published in Japan. Likewise, the project has had the support of Ibermúsicas for participation in international music festivals, the Regional Fund for Culture to carry out a national tour and the FONAM (National Music Fund) for the production of its first album: Marginal, which It was nominated for best tango album at the 21st Graffiti Awards.
