China Cat Riders Acoustic Show
Kingston’s Grateful Dead tribute band, The China Cat Riders, returns to the Hotel Wolfe Island. This is booked as a matinee in the Piano Room as a special acoustic performance in order to take advantage of the Steinway grand piano. Dead Heads (Grateful Dead fans) will know that the Dead were famous for playing live acoustic sets from their early days. In 1980 they did a famous series of shows getting back to that practice and released a critically acclaimed live album of those acoustic performances called “Reckoning” long before the famous “MTV Unplugged” series. See one performance of the Dead playing an acoustic version of “Bird Song” below. Like that set up, China Cats will use the grand piano, minimal drum set with brushes and acoustic guitars.
We book this show as a Saturday matinee with the hopes of encouraging families to come with kids for some great live music that is much quieter than our electric shows.
Another reason to come out is that on March 1st the Hotel has an amazing art opening of Heather Haynes work that will be up for the month. Come for the music of the Dead, and the great art!
